Dan Reed announced the release of his 5th solo album, ‘Lift Off’ in a Facebook post on November 4th 2020.
In these challenging times I am happy to try to bring some musical solace to these days with the release of my New Solo Album entitled ‘Liftoff’ shipping on December 4th! Pre-Orders begins this Friday and will be releasing 4 Lyric Videos I’ve created over the next month. I am honored to have three co-writes on this eleven track album with Richard Hilton, keyboardist from ‘Chic‘ whom we worked with on SLAM all those years ago, bassist and brother Bengan Jonasson, guitarist James Bird from ‘Mason Hill’, and had the pleasure of UK ultra vocalists Emily Lynn and Lara Smiles perform some amazing vocals on a couple tracks! The album is mastered by the talented Ian Kelosky, and artwork designed by the always amazing Graeme Bell who adapted a photo from our good friend Anders Gustafsson.
Composing ‘Liftoff’ has been good therapy for myself while struggling to stay positive during so much darkness and division gripping this world. I hope this collection of songs will be of some joy or respite for those of you interested in diving in to it. I‘ve always been a lover of ‘albums’ and have given much heart in trying to create an hour long musical experience musically and thematically this time around. I even delved back in to playing some lead guitar on a few tracks after being inspired while supporting Jeff Beck last year in the US, an artist who was a tremendous inspiration for me back in high school.
So please stay tuned for the Townsend Records Pre-Order Link, and the title track lyric video coming this Friday evening, and wishing everyone a most insightful and inspired rest of the week! Stay safe out there ❤
And from Townsend Records, Dan said:
With these compositions my primary focus was asking myself the question of ‘where do we find comfort and hope when darkness seems to be overrunning the human landscape. What do we do with the anger, fear, and often rage that comes with the ever growing divide that is gripping our societies and our own inner heart?” I’m quite sure these songs don’t answer those questions, but they do try to be a warm bed to rest the weary soul on.
The majority of ‘Liftoff’ was recorded in Dan’s Zero One Studios in Prague, with Reed producing and performing vocals, guitars, keys, bass, and programming drums and percussion giving this album a futuristic vibe while still firmly rooted in rock, with a focus on lyrics and melody that have always been a hallmark of Dan Reed’s solo work.
In a time when far too many people are physically locked down and grounded ‘Liftoff’ aims to persuade the heart and soul to fly free!
The original release date was December 4th 2020, but was pushed back a week to December 10th following minor distribution problems from the seller, Townsend Records.
The four lyric videos were released every Friday in the 4 weeks leading up to the original release date. Two of the videos, ‘Spaceship Built For Two’, and ‘Shed My Skin’, were released two days earlier for Stardate Collective Patreon patrons.

We have ‘Liftoff’! —the launch of Dan Reed’s extraordinary new solo album. Released on Zero One Entertainment’s label and distributed through Townsend Records, the album is now shipping and available to download today.
In a statement from Dan Reed – “I am happy to announce the official release date of the new solo album ‘LIFTOFF’ today for CDs, ‘Liftoff’ T Shirts, Signed CDs (100 available) and Digital Downloads on the Links below! All songs will be available on Spotify January 30th 2021. The feedback about the four preview tracks/videos released over the last month and the reviews from the online publications have been most heartening and I would like to thank the wonderful Claire Lloyd for all her great efforts in the getting the word spread about this new album, Ian Kelosky for the sublime mastering job, and Graeme Purdy Graeme Purdy Bell for the always beautiful artwork and Anders Gustafsson for the lovely cover photo!
It’s truly humbling seeing hard rock publications such as ‘Metal Talk’ state – “There is a genuine lyricism at play here that adds layer upon layer of depth to the gorgeous kaleidoscope of colours, the words just as important to the whole atmosphere as the blissed tapestry of sound.”
My only hope the new music will bring everyone good vibes during these difficult times. Writing and recording these tracks certainly was a source of balance and comfort for myself during this challenging year, and writing a few tracks with such talents as keyboardist Richard Hilton from CHIC, bassist Bengt Jonasson from my solo band, and guitarist James Bird from MASON HILL was a great honor and true creative joy!
Big shout out to Emily Lynn and Lara Smiles for your soul lifting background vocals on ‘Back to Earth’ and ‘Spaceship Built for Two’!
Many thanks to Bruce and Nic at Townsend Records, and my deepest gratitude to the Caravan, Networkers and everyone at the STARDATE Collective over on Patreon.
Only love to Jules Carley and Dario Nikzad for all you do on behalf of spreading the news and keeping the DRN community in contact, and to Martin Jarvis for working my live solo performances! Hopefully I will back doing shows again soon!
All my love to Kateřina Bláhová for assisting on this entire project!
Thank you all for supporting this new album and I wish everyone a heartwarming holiday season with your family and friends, whether it be in person or over long distances digitally while we close out this crazy year, and let’s hope 2021 brings us back to a deeper appreciation of how valuable human connection is and how precious this world is we call home!”
Dan Reed has built an enviable rep for his funk rock with Dan Reed Network, yet Liftoff’ is Dan’s 5th solo album: an odyssey, full of mellow, mesmeric music and insightful, spellbinding lyrics which takes listeners upwards and out to the high frontiers of mind and space, and back to Earth once again, better able to appreciate the beauty and majesty of life on this rare blue marble.
“This is Dan at his enigmatic best,” say RAMzine, “mixed styles but all class”
In a time when so many are grounded and ground down, this cohesive, 11-track album gives the heart and soul a chance to shine and fly free. Links below to order the album and board for ‘Liftoff’, taking a trip into Dan Reed’s chilled-out cosmos.
