I've just got back from Dante's, here in Portland, where Dan performed a solo show.
This show was almost a carbon copy of the December show, although it felt slightly shorter.
Different to that show, a couple of DRN tunes were missing – I’m so Sorry & All My Lovin’. Also gone were The Rush, Candelight and Sacred Ground. The only addition was closing out the set with Salt of Joy.
One other thing I noticed was Dan using digital effects on his voice (delay, chorus) a few times during some DRN songs (Steel, Lover I think). I think they distracted rather than enhanced Dan’s great voice and he would do better without them.
One other thing, Dan Pred was at the show, stood just to the side of me. It’s nice to see the ex-DRN guys coming out in support of Dan. I believe Blake is going to be at the Seattle show.
Once again, Soriah opened the set with his amazing Tuvan throat singing. He sang a different song to all of his previous appearances with Dan. He again sang with Dan on Promised Land (as he did in December), and then also on On Your Side.
The full setlist was:
Long Way To Go
Losing My Fear
Coming Up For Air
Rainbow Child
Promised Land (with Soriah)
On Your Side (with Soriah)
Lover
Stronger Than Steel
Ritual
Brave New World
Salt of Joy
A really good show, but not quite as impactful as the December show.
Dan said his next Portland show will be August 15th on Hayden Island at the Tomahawk Festival.
Still no word on a release date for Coming Up for Air. _________________ Amrik
