A band that couldn't be pigeon-holed. The media tried
to put labels on the band - Prince meets Bon Jovi was one of the
most poplular ones but this did not begin to describe the band's
sound.
The definitive line-up of the band was - Dan
Reed on vocals and guitar; Brion
James on guitar; Melvin
Brannon II on bass; Dan
Pred on drums and Blake
Sakamoto on keyboards.
Dan Reed Network released an EP, 3 studio albums,
a 'Best Of' and a belated live album. And it was live that Dan Reed
Network really rocked - quite simply one of the most stunning live
shows one could witness. Colour, sound, mixin' it up with the audience,
karate, ballet and funk - it was all there.
But for whatever reason, Dan Reed Network never made
the big time. They deserved to be bigger than Bon Jovi but it wasn't
to be. Lack of radio airplay, lack of promotion by the record company,
media coverage (in the US at least), and timing all played against
them. Still, at least we were there. And if you've just discovered
them, I hope you like what you've found.
Dan Reed Network never officially split up, but went
their separate ways in 1993, with Dan Reed going into acting before
returning to music. All the details are on this site. See the Timeline
here.
